Should I Pour Cooking Oil On My Indoor Electric Grill Before Cooking?
If you have just recently purchased a new indoor electric grill, you may be curious to know if you need to put cooking oil on the grill surface or spray it with a cooking oil spray prior to grilling your foods? Does it really make a big difference? There are differing opinions on this depending upon who you ask.
For years, I have put oil on the grill when cooking up certain types of foods. For example, if you cook chicken on an indoor grill, or an outdoor grill for that matter, then you know how it can stick when you go to turn it over. Putting a light coating of oil on the grill plates will eliminate the problem. The same can be said for fish. You can also spray the grill with one of the many types of cooking oil sprays as well.
Now, for steak or burgers I will not put oil on the grill plates. They do just fine as long as your grill utilizes the non-stick grill plates, which most every indoor grill does today. Finally, using a very light coating of oil on the grill will in no way affect the taste of your food. The emphasis is on "light". The other advantage that some will argue is that using oil tends to make cleanup a bit easier since the foods do not stick as much.
