Nostalgia Electrics HDR565 Hot Dog Roller Review

If a hot dog grill or roller is what you are looking for, then this Nostalgia Electrics HDR 565 Hot Dog Roller is one of the more fun grills you will find. It's sort of like having your own carnival hot dog roller, or the one from your local convenience store, right in your own home.

Of course, I love all the memories that a roller like this brings back, but how well does this appliance work? Since we have small children in the house, I knew this would be a fun machine to test out.

So What Makes This Nostalgia Hot Dog Roller So Enjoyable?

Aside from the obvious great looks of this roller, it has many of the things I would look for in a hot dog grill.

- It can handle up to 8 regular hot dogs at one time
- It's easy to use and clean
- It's quality made

Having Great Tasting Hot Dogs Is All About The Rollers

One of the biggest keys to having a great tasting hot dog is having hot rollers that do their job well. The 5 non-stick rollers that are included heat up within 10 minutes, and then take approximately 20 minutes to cook the hot dogs. I would advise getting the rollers good and hot before adding on the hot dogs.

The rollers themselves are all metal construction and roll evenly during the cooking process, which means you get hot dogs that are cooked thoroughly and come out just as you would find at the ballgame or in the store.

Cooks Up To 8 Regular Sized Hot Dogs

The HDR 565 Hot Dog Roller will cook up to 8 regular sized hot dogs, or 4 larger foot long hot dogs. This will be fine in most cases, but it would have been nice to see it cook a larger number. Perhaps Nostalgia is looking after my waist line...

The Nostalgia Hot Dog Roller Is Easy To Use And Has Several Added Uses

This hot dog roller is very easy to use. In fact, our small children were able to use it without any problems at all. I don't care for complicated appliances, so this is a nice benefit.

While the hot dogs are cooking, you can warm the buns as well, which was nice to see with this model.

It also has the ability to cook other foods on the rollers such as breakfast sausages and hot links.

It's worth noting that there is also a griddle that can be used in place of the rollers to cook things like bacon, eggs, pancakes and even hamburgers if you wish. Since it has adjustable heat controls you can get the right temperature to cook various foods.

Cleanup is made easier since the rollers, griddle and drip tray are all removable. That is nice indeed.

Quality Construction Is Important

In looking at any small appliance, quality is always an important issue for me. No one likes buying something and then having it break within one or two uses. To be honest, I was not expecting much in the way of quality with this hot dog roller, but I was very surprised to find out otherwise. Don't let the nostalgic look fool you. It's put together very well and quite durable.

Are There Any Complaints?

In doing our research and reading all of the reviews from other users, the one complaint that a few people have had is that they wish it would cook more hot dogs at one time. I mentioned that myself above, but as you know, no appliance can be perfect. To have the ability to cook 12-16 hot dogs at a time would see this model double in size and lose a lot of its unique appeal.
