Indoor Grill Safety Tips For Home
For anyone who enjoys the taste of grill cooked foods all year round, an indoor grill is just the solution. Cooking your favorite foods has never been easier, not to mention quicker, than on one of these indoor grills. That said, safety is just as important indoors as it is outside on the gas or charcoal grill. Here's a few quick safety tips to keep in mind.
Preventing A Fire Hazard
Before cooking on your indoor electric grill you should always take a moment to inspect the cord on the grill to be sure it is not worn or damaged. Always plug the cord into a grounded outlet. A GFCI is also recommended.
Next, make sure the space around the grill is clear and obviously, never heat up the grill when there are any flammable materials next to it. Finally, when you have finished cooking you'll want to make sure and unplug the grill. I've seen times when someone thought the grill was off and had cooled down, so they grabbed it and got themselves burned from it.
Grill Foods At The Proper Temperature
Be sure to wait until your grill has heated up to the correct temperature settings for the foods you are preparing. If you put your foods on a cold grill you can mess up the grilling times and have foods that are under cooked. Any of your major manufacturers will have some sort of indicator that tells you when the temperature has reached the desired cooking level.
When you are done grilling, don't let the food sit out for long. Serve it up immediately to avoid bacteria and contamination.
Using Cooking Utensils And Platters
One safety tip here is to always use a clean platter for cooked foods. Don't put your cooked foods on the same platter as the one that you used for the raw, uncooked foods. At least not without washing it with soap and water first. If you don't do this you can easily get sick from the bacteria on the platter.
On an indoor grill it is always a good idea to use plastic cooking utensils instead of metal ones. This is due in part to the non-stick coating that you find on your indoor grills.
These simple cooking and food safety tips will make your indoor grilling a much safer and pleasant experience for everyone in your family.
