Can You Use A Grill Pan On An Electric Stove?
One option for doing some indoor grilling is to use one of the various models of indoor grill pans. But can you use a grill pan over an electric stove?
While grill pans are mainly used with gas stoves, or even flat grill pans on ceramic range tops, you can still use these on a stove with electric burners... but don't expect it to work perfectly.
Getting enough heat to the grill pan is the primary issue here. Plan on giving yourself a lot of extra time getting the pan hot enough to do any grilling. It could take 10-15 minutes to get hot enough. I've known some who will put the pan in the oven to heat it up first, but this can be tricky to get it out of the oven and onto the stove without burning yourself. So be careful if you try to do that.
The other major issue can be the smoke. If you live in a condo or apartment, I wouldn't advise this method. This type of grilling indoors is known to produce lots of smoke, so be sure you have plenty of ventilation.
